Elisa is a fourth generation Nevadan and an unrepentant night owl. She has experience in the public, private and nonprofit sectors off and on-line. She is currently the President & CEO of Nevada Advocates for Planned Parenthood Affiliates, the policy education, advocacy and election arm of Planned Parenthood in Nevada. Admits that being on the debate team in high school qualified her for geek status long (ok – decades!) ago, but thinks twittering and flickring are much hipper forms of geekdom; and with four kids ages 14 to 25, essential. She thinks social networking is not quite as good as catching up over coffee, but close.
Mike Litt is a grassroots mover and shaker who grew up in Houston, Texas. Mike’s mom is Japanese, his dad was Jewish, and his step-dad is Swedish – you should hear the languages in his head! In high school, his family had to sell their home because they could no longer afford their mortgage payments, but he was still able to attend the University of Texas because of grants. Given his personal story, Mike is deeply committed to advancing America’s promise of an economy built from the middle-out where people of diverse backgrounds can all participate.
He served as Canvassing Director for the Travis County Democratic Party in 2008, then as Field Director for the Chris Riley for City Council Campaign, and as Regional Field Director for Organizing for Action (OFA) in Austin. At OFA, Michael mobilized grassroots support for the Affordable Care Act, Financial Reform, the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and the 2010 mid-term elections in Central Texas. As Deputy Field Director for Obama for America, he oversaw 7 offices in Southwest Las Vegas during the 2012 Presidential campaign. He then worked as the Lead Organizer in Nevada at the The Action, mobilizing grassroots activists around the tax fairness in the 2012 fiscal cliff discussions. He is currently the Field Director for the Clean Energy Project where he grows support through community outreach, educational events and volunteer engagement.
As an active and thoughtful citizen of the world, I am interested in sharing the knowledge and skills I have gained over a lifetime of experience as a student, librarian, wife, mother, traveler, hiker, reader, museum/orchestra/theater-goer, dog lover, aspiring landscape photographer, and, most recently, grass roots volunteer. I am a proponent of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society’s motto, “Let the love of learning rule humanity.” and am often guided by Proust’s famous quote, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” As a new member of the ProgressNow Nevada Board, I look forward to contributing my time, talent and perspective to the strategic promotion of progressive causes in our state.
