Stop the $15 billion water grab pipeline

Protect the Great Basis and Your Wallet!

The fight over the water grab pipeline proposed by the Southern Nevada Water Authority is coming to a crest.

Right now the State Engineer Jason King is taking public comment on whether to grant the SNWA the rights to drain water from White Pine County and Lincoln County in Northern Nevada and pipe it hundreds of miles South to Clark County.

Experts predict the pipeline could result in a tripling of water bills for Southern Nevada residents and the irreversible draining of the Great Basin.

Tell the State Engineer we do NOT need this water grab pipeline!

Keep Nevadans safe from lax out-of-state gun laws

Keep Nevadans Safe From Lax Out-Of-State Gun Laws

If the gun lobby and their extremist allies in Washington, D.C. get their way, Nevada will no longer be able to make its own decisions about who can legally carry a hidden, loaded gun.

Dangerous people we currently prohibit from carrying concealed guns -- including convicted criminals and habitual drunks -- could be granted a concealed gun permit in a state with looser standards, and Nevada would have to honor it -- no matter what.

It's our lives and our communities - we should decide our laws!

End Big Oil Giveaways

End The Big Oil Billion Dollar Giveaways

While Americans are struggling with high gas prices and program cuts, the top five oil companies have already made over $67 billion in profits in the first half of this 2011 alone.

We simply can't afford to pay billions in taxpayer handouts to Big Oil while our national debt climbs to a record $14 trillion, and Americans are being told they have to sacrifice, including billions in cuts to Medicare and Social Security.

Take Action to End Big Oil Giveaways!

Land and Water Conservation Fund

Support Public Parks!

Since 1965 the Land and Water Conservation Fund has helped develop and improve hundreds of Nevada parks and open spaces.

Treasured places like Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Sunset Park, and the myriad of parks along the Truckee River have benefited from the LWCF. These are places that enrich our lives and make our communities stronger.

Unfortunately, Congress has slashed LWCF funding year after year. In fact, the LWCF has only been fully funded two times since 1965. We cannot continue to disinvest in our communities and basic quality of life places.

Tell Congress to Fully Fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund

How Would You Fix Nevada?

This year we lost a perfect opportunity to update Nevada's 1950s tax code and create a sustainable 21st century revenue source for our community services.

The 2011 Legislature once again ended up simply filling a hole. The continuation of taxes businesses already paid was only made possible thanks to a Supreme Court decision.

The Legislature won't be meeting for two whole years. But we don't have to wait.

Protect Our Air From Toxic Mercury

After 20 years of delay, the Environmental Protection Agency has finally proposed strong mercury and air toxics standards for power plants.

Every day coal plants spew mercury and other toxics from their smokestacks without regard for how it impacts their neighbors. Mercury from these plants accumulates in local waterways and poses a direct risk to people when they eat contaminated fish.

Please send a message to the EPA today to stop air toxics like mercury from harming our communities.

Vote Smart! Get the Next Nevada Progressive Voter Guide!

Honest information can be hard to find in an election. Candidate's websites are helpful, but they never tell the whole story. Even in the age of Google it can be difficult to put into context all the information available.

That's why we put together Nevada's first ever progressive voter guide. We documented every federal, statewide, assembly, senate, and many county and judicial offices (provided there was at least one progressive in the race).

Bring Clean Energy Jobs to Nevada!

Nevada has the best potential of any state for renewable energy development, with bountiful sun, consistent wind and fabulous soil. But for far too long we've been sold an energy plan that sees solar and wind and biomass as some distant future.

That future has long ago begun and Nevada risks leaving its bounty unharvested. Renewable energy needs to be the first order of business in Nevada.

Harvesting nature's resources is not only good for the environment and a critical foreign policy goal, it's a boon to the state's economy. Out congressional leaders must commit real support for renewable energy development through commitments to support the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009.

Support a Clean and Secure Energy Future. Sign the Petition!
