ProgressNow Nevada announces the launch of a major media accountability
project focused mainly on the actions of the state's largest newspaper.
The project, Las Vegas Journal Review, will shine light on one of the
most important community institutions by focusing on factual errors and
bias in the Review-Journal and other local news outlets.
At a time when newspapers are buckling under tremendous pressures from
the economic recession and digital age competition, it is imperative
Nevada have a trusted source of local news. The Review-Journal newspaper
has increasingly handled these pressures by veering hard to the right,
offering readers slanted coverage and in some cases manufactured news.
Las Vegas Journal Review (http://www.lvjournalreview.com)
will examine these factors with daily content of its own. The site has
sections devoted to monitoring the writing and actions of RJ Publisher
Sherm Frederick; a correction tally examining the paper's admitted
errors; and the RJ's ties to conservative sources from the Nevada Policy
Research Institute to right-wing radio and conservative political
operative Chuck Muth.
The website features a daily blog, an Ask Us section, and daily fact checks.
